The one thing that has been bothering me after reading an article from a journalist a will leave nameless, was his per 40 minutes statistic. Pretty much he would somehow determine what statistics a player would get if he would play 40 minutes a game, the reality is that the player’s he would give these per 40 minute averages to, are players who only play 20 minutes or less. There is a reason that these players play 20 minutes or less on the court and that reason being is that they don’t have the talent to play big minutes. If these players had the talent to play big minutes they would be getting playing time in clutch situation to determine whether or not they are really able to play 40 minutes a game and put up big numbers.
Statistics are very misleading and give analysts like this guy, a false sense of knowledge based on things that won’t happen. Alright let’s say that a coach would give these players 40 minutes a game, just for fun, would this player be able to help his team win a ball game, most likely not. The New York Knicks are a team filled with a bunch of average players who share their minutes pretty evenly, when Isiah Thomas plays his role players can they win ball games? There are already enough statistics out there, lets not start making up ones now.
