Carmelo to Yao: The daily scoop on the NBA

Detroit’s Texas two step

January 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The first test of the season for Detroit to see whether they are ready for the post season success or if they will just fizzle out like last year. The have had trouble this season against quality teams like the Lakers, Jazz(not some much right now) Boston, Portland and they lost twice to Chicago Bulls who are terrible. This month they will play against the Spurs, Mavericks, and the Magic two times. The Boston Celtics have played a similar schedule to the Detroit but, the Celtics have five more wins than the pistons. How come so many people keep saying the Pistons are going to make it to the finals this season? Even if the Celtics beat the pistons one more time to make the season series 2-1 people will continue to say the Pistons will make it to the finals.

Let’s compare roster’s for a few seconds now, the Detroit Pistons have Rasheed Wallace, Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Tayshaun Prince and Antonio McDyess. The Celtics have Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Kendrick Perkins. The Pistons do have an advantage at the point guard but other than that they really are at huge disadvantage to the Celtics big 3. A lot of people talked about Detroit has a better bench, however the Celtics Glen Davis should how he could play on Saturday as well as having a good backup in Eddie House who can hit 3’s.

Hasn’t anyone learned from last year when the Golden State Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks in the first round and before the series started, people kept yapping their gums, saying that season series don’t mean anything. The Mavericks made the finals the year before and people used that same reason for the Mavericks to beat the Warriors. Let’s be honest with Detroit’s championship, it was just given to them. The Pistons beat a train wreck of a Lakers team back in 2004 and tried again the next year to beat San Antonio but, just couldn’t. The Cleveland Lebron’s even beat them in Eastern Conference Finals, how could a team that relies on one player beat a so called elite team. The Pistons are not a elite team and they are not going to make it to the finals.
